Preparing for a Swim Meet

Swimmer’s uniform (put name inside on collar of shirt in permanent marker):

• Team suit

• Team tee

• Team swim cap

In each child’s swim bag:

• 2 pairs of goggles (properly adjusted and previously worn swimming)

• Swim cap

• 2 towels (and blanket to sit on if desired)

• Sunscreen, sunglasses, hat (bug spray?)

• Books, cards, etc. … for entertainment between events

• Water bottle and snacks

In each parent’s arsenal:

• Chairs for seating

• Sunscreen

• Sharpie & Highlighter

• Canopy for shade (daytime meets)

Arriving at a meet:

• Check swimmer(s) in with coach

• Obtain the swimmer heat sheet

• Help your child record their events, strokes, etc – preferably in writing on swimmer. This is often written with a sharpie on the arm or leg noting: event #, heat #, lane # and stroke (see example below).

• Release child to team

During and after a meet:

• Have your child remain with team

• Do not leave pool area without checking with coach, regardless of whether your swimmer has finished their last posted event (late changes in relays may not be on printed heat sheets)

• Join team for post meet gathering

• PLEASE throw all trash away and gather belongings!!!

If you are running late for a meet or find you cannot attend please contact XXX

It is vital that you let us know if you are unable to attend a meet that you've signed up for as it may affect a relay event and cause other swimmers on the team to miss out on swimming the relay sad.

Using a waterproof marker (Sharpie), write four column headings on your swimmer’s arm

E, H, L, Stroke – for Event, Heat, Lane and Stroke respectively.

Continue filling in the grid until all of your swimmer’s event information is on the arm.

For this Event, swimmer's arm would read:

         E    H   L     Stroke

        75   2   4   100 IM

(means event 75 - heat 2 - lane 3 in the 100 Individual Medley)
