Volunteer Positions

Timberwood Park Swim Team Volunteer Job Descriptions:

 

We thank all our volunteers because we could not conduct a swim meet without you!! The swimmers appreciate you so much!  

Timer – Time and record times for swimmers during the meets. Each timer works the entire meet. NO SPECIAL TRAINING REQUIRED PRIOR TO TIMING.

Head Ready Bench Parent - This person is responsible for coordinating all ready bench assignments at all meets. There will be two other volunteers helping with each age group at each meet.

Team Ready Area Parents (8 per meet) - Ready Bench volunteers stay with an assigned age group for the entire meet. They are responsible for taking attendance for their age group and notifying the Coach's assistant and start line officials of absent swimmers. They must inform the swimmers of their assigned events--in some age groups the events and heats are written in Sharpie on the swimmers' arms for easy reference. Ready bench volunteers also bring the swimmers in order to their assigned lanes in a timely fashion. They watch over their swimmers at the meet, remind the swimmers to clean up after themselves, and generally help the swimmers maintain appropriate behavior throughout the meet. For each meet, 2 adults per age group are needed.

            6 and Under (2)

            7 and 8 y/o (2)

            9 and 10 y/o (2)

            11 and older (2)

*Runner - Brings DQ slips to the meet director and recorded time sheets from the meet timers to the scorekeeper table in a timely fashion (generally every 5 events).

Ribbon Personnel (1 per meet) – Obtains from scorekeeper printed stickers and places on ribbons. Must remain until meet completion.

*Event Sign Flipper - This volunteer will run the event sign to signify what event is in the water.

Score Keeper - Records the order of finish and the times, notes all DQs for all events. Compiles team scores. Directs information to awards table. Must attend MSSL clinic in April or May. 

Stroke Judge (4 at home meets, 2 at away meets) –  Must be trained and certified by MSSL for rules governing turns and touches for Freestyle, Breast, Back and Butterfly strokes. Report all DQs to the Meet Director. 

*Set-up (4 per home meet) – Come before the home meet starts and help set up all of the equipment.

*Take-Down (4 per home meet) As soon as the meet is over puts the equipment away.

Trash Pick Up – Everyone will be counted on to fulfill this important job throughout the season.

If you DO NOT fulfill your requirements, a $300 fee will be assessed to your credit card on file. You may also opt out of volunteer requirements by paying $300 if you cannot or do not want to work the meets.
